Taoyuan District (), formerly known as Taoyuan City (), is a district of Taoyuan City in the northwestern part of the island of Taiwan.
==History==

Taoyuan is the native home to the plains tribes of Taiwanese aborigines. Taoyuan's old name was ''Toahong'' () since there used to be many peach blossoms in the area.
In November 1901, under Japanese rule, a local administrative office, ''Toshien Cho'' (桃仔園廳), was established in the area. In 1909, the number of ''Cho'' were reduced and the local unit was renamed Tōen Chō ((日本語:桃園廳)). In 1920, the area was renamed Tōen Town (), and incorporated into Tōen District (), Shinchiku Prefecture as a county jurisdiction. After the Chinese Civil War, it was "Taoyuan Town, Taoyuan County." Since April 21, 1971, the name was "Taoyuan City" (桃園市).〔http://www.taocity.gov.tw/en/about.aspx〕 And on December 25, 2014, the city center and government seat was upgraded to the current status of "Taoyuan District."
